The television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s book, Normal People, has taken BBC audiences by storm. The Independent described it as “pitch-perfect” and The Guardian said that it “depicts all the embarrassments and excitements, horrors and humiliations, glories and grotesqueries,” of a young couple’s four-year relationship. Audiences fell in love with Connell for his piercing eyes and sensitivity and Marianne for her unapologetic personality.

Amidst a momentous and historic political movement, a ruthless global pandemic, and the saddening resultant impact on the music industry, the release of new music may seem such an irrelevant thing that it becomes a somewhat dicey act. As always, though, music is exactly the form of respite we need in difficult times. Swedish-American artist Alexandra Berglof, known to her fans as ‘Berg’, took the chance on June 19th, with her recent single ‘Where Will We Be’ – and thank goodness she did. The track doesn’t fall short of understated pop music brilliance for a second.
